Life should be more like Star Trek, part 2

I'm sure you'd all forgotten my little "Life imitates Star Trek" rant many, many months ago (I know I had). I suppose I'd just given up on one day living at the blissful center of the United Federation of Planets (UFP? Gene Roddenberry seems to have been great at envisioning the future, but not so good at creating acronyms.).
However, the Intern has discovered something that gives my dream a new hope*. That's right, our own US airforce has evidently invented a ray-gun that is permentantly set on "stun".**
I can only hope it looks like this:

* Only Dave and Lissa will understand this sad little pun, and that's probaby a good thing.
** I also really really hope this is a joke, I mean, what is the Air Force going to do with ray guns anyway??

Why I missed Thanksgiving...

Yeah yeah, I know I fed everyone that ridiculous story of "Canada doesn't have Thanksgiving", but it's about time you all knew the truth:

You see, I heard a rumor that this year, instead of celebrating at home, The Intern was going to take the family to the World Toilet Summit. Now, I love the porcelian goddess as much as the next girl, but not enough to take me to a "summit". Sorry.

When two geeks wed...

... they insist that everyone sign the marriage license with a Space Pen.

The wonderful Sandy Kaye and Jeff Post got hitched this past weekend, and they were foolish enough to invite me, so now I'm going to plaster pictures of their wedding all over the internet. Mwahahahahahahaha!!!!
The whole gang:
(They think they're soooo funny)
We put together all of the bouquets ourselves ... and they actually looked pretty great.
Mary-Wynn and I, shiny and happy with pre-wedding euphoria:
Oh, and here's the lazy minister ... loafing about in the bride room.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

Yes, I know that it's before Thanksgiving (for those of us normal, non-Canadian, people) but I'm still hoping that the Intern will get me this:
It's Christmas time in the Empire...

Chocolate Party!

This past weekend the fabulous Amy M. and I had a party! This was not just any party, but a party specifically designed for those who have more than one X chromasome, and are really really stressed out. Yes, that's right, we had a chocolate party*.

Amy and I, in matching pink party shirts
(please pardon the quality of the following photos, which were taken with my cell phone after I had more than one glass of bubbly)
Amy and I made all of the goodies ourselves (including truffles!)
You will note the glint in Amy's eye ... this is what happens when you give a girl 7+ lbs of Chocolate.

This was just impressive:

And look, people actually came!
(and it was at about this point that I forgot to take any more pictures ... sue me)

*for those of you unfamiliar with the concept of a "chocolate party" it consisted of consuming vast amounts chocolate and champagne while gossiping for hours with some of the girls from my program.

Protect yourself from alien death rays, using only tinfoil!

Some guys at MIT seem to have a lot of free time. That said, I feel like I know people who would want to date them.
On the Effectiveness of Aluminium Foil Helmets:
An Empirical Study
(it will change your life, and your critical fashion decisions)
I know, I know, we all were pretty sure that these helmets could protect us from alien death rays, or were at the very least effective government-mind-control-wave-repelling devices, but the truth is shockingly different. As the sciency results of this study clearly indicate, the helmets may actually make these things worse.
I'm sure you all join me in sending a heartfelt thanks to my intern, for bringing this grave and critical issue to the fore.

Technical difficulties...

Hello all ... I apologize for the lack of posts lately, but blogger has behaving in a way that I can only decribe by the term "freaking out".

Just out of morbid curiousity, has anyone else with blogger had problems posting pictures using the little "post picture" icon inside blogger itself (instead of with 'hello', for example)?? Whenever I try to post my lovely pictures I get a tiny version of my image inside a larger one that I don't recognize. Weird.

Hopefully all will soon be resolved, and I can tell you all about my fascinating life ... you are all waiting with baited breath I'm sure.

Remembrance Day

It is Remembrance Day in Canada today, which is the equivalent of Memorial Day for all of you people. If you'd like to know more about it, I've found something right on my level to explain it to all of you.

Why is this actually exciting, you ask? Because Remembrance day for me meant big guns going off in front of me on my way home from German class. Wheeee!
This was very impressive, especially given that I was about 10 yards away:

I think my Intern wants a raise...

This is what he sent in this week:

Yes, that's right, for your own amusement
Is this as sad as I think it is, or am I just having a strange day?

Designed with me in mind

Yes, that's right, I'm the kind of person who would lock myself into my own trunk. I don't techincally have a trunk in my CRV, you say?? As if that would stop me. So thank the dear sweet baby jesus that they've invented these handy idiot-proof get-yourself-out-of-the-trunk tabs.

Be sure to run away, or the trunk might get you again!

This comes to you from BoingBoing via my Intern, who is either trying to send me a not-so-subtle message, or stymy my nefarious kidnapping schemes ...

Beautiful Torono (which, I've learned, is how one pronounces that)

This past weekend my lovely girlfriend, Bridget, visited me!!! And you know what this means ... I now have actual pictures that I can post* for your viewing enjoyment.

We took the ferry out to the barrier islands, which consist of very pretty parks, and have great views back towards the city.
The CN tower is very pointy:
I live in the Chinatown/Kensington Market area of the city. For those of you unfamiliar with Toronto, this means lots of yummy food and cheap crap for sale!!
It's a store for baskets, wheee!
Okay, now I'm apperantly the only one who was astounded to learn this, but I found out this weekend that Toronto actually has a very active DISC GOLF community. There were actually a whole bunch of people playing this game out on the Barrier Islands ...
Bridget watches for rogue killer golf discs:
And because you can't read the sign in the previous picture...

*pictures of TORONTO, get your minds out of the gutter, geeze.
