When will I be classy?!?

You know how sad the life of a poor graduate student is? I can't even get one of these new-fangled designer toilet fresheners because my apartment is so old that the toilet can't accommodate this new technology.
I can't think of a place where class is needed more:

Thanks to the Intern for keeping my life interesting ...

Would a regency super-hero have a cape?

The Intern has offered this Jane Austen action figure up on the altar of weird products that amuse me. I think you'll all agree that her mere existence begs one fundamental question: in an action-figure to action-figure battle, who would win, Batman or Jane?? Sure, he's got a nifty cape, but maybe she could stun him with her prose ...

She's got a quill, but no utility belt:

I live on a postage stamp

For those of you (hi mom!) who've been asking me to post pictures of my tiny tiny apartment, here they are! Since moving in I've painted the walls (which used to be Pepto-Bismol pink and red in the kitchen) and made the curtains and the bed cushions, which I think have improved the place greatly. It is really very cozy and ridiculously close to campus, the one drawback being that if I have more than two people over I fear the place may reach critical mass and implode.
Here's what you see when you walk in the door:

And here's the view back towards the door from the window.

And finally here's my "kitchen"

I'm Canadian now...

This weekend, I went ice skating downtown by the lake with Justin and Amy...

Let me just say, skating while trying to take a picture is hard.

Amy and I have cute hats!

Then I went home and watched Hockey. I suppose it was only a matter of time...

Life should be more like Star Trek - part 3

I love it! The Intern informs me that I might, one day, have the option of living on Mars (not that I would necessarily want to, mind you, it's a little red and dry for my taste). All because someone is actually working on Warp Drive.
Up up and away!!

Okay ... next I suggest we work on replicators. I really want one of those.

Pax Ikea

I heart Ikea, and here's one of the reasons why ...

A couple of days ago Amy M. and I went shopping for chic and trendy homegoods. As we shopped we noticed that Ikea had plastered very prominent banner ads all over the store, and Amy pointed out something that I just never imagined that Ikea would sell:

That's right, Ikea sells peace ... and at a discount!

I suppose I shouldn't really be surprised that Ikea carries this, they have everything else. However this brings up two salient points:
1. The sign doesn't mention how much peace costs in the first place, so I can't know I'm getting a good deal.
2. Perhaps Amy and I should reconsider this grad school thing, as our already warped minds are clearly not being helped by the experience.

I go north...

Now that I've gotten over my slight case of plague, I though you all might like to see some tidbits from my wonderful trip to visit to the Bridget family home in Duluth, Minnesota. It was a great vacation, and I had many opportunities to play around in the snow and be lazy, which is all a girl really wants.

Here it is ... the humble Holcomb homestead.
And no, I don't have a problem with alliteration, why do you ask?

Bridget and I went walking in the woods almost every day
(and were never shot by hunters ... I thank my "I am not a deer" song)

Here's where I got "creative" and forced Bridget to build the entire pyramid of Giza complex in her front yard.

I think the Sphinx turned out well.

And finally, this is what happens when Bridget and I attack the snowman that her father had built in the yard. Uhhhh, that's not and Amazon, and all my male friends shouldn't be scared. Really....

"Winter Vomiting Disease"

Hi all ... sorry for the complete lack of posts lately. I've just spent the second half of my vacation at Bridget's house in Minnesota. I had a lovely time, except for one minor glitch, in which I caught what Dr John. Holcomb MD referred to as the "Winter Vomiting Disease."

Gee, I'm so glad it had a technical name. Given the apparent advanced state of medicine, right now I'm just feeling a bit blessed that I got away without being bled.

Ha ha, Leeches, I've escaped you once again!!!

The Blogging flurry will being again pronto ...
